Design history
Choose a theme from the following options:
- Deep ecology and creative industries
• the nature of design, sustainability and ethics
• what industries make and what the purpose of industry should be
• how advertising and marketing will connect with production and consumption in the future
• the 4th / 5th industrial revolutions • fairs, exhibitions and exposition • utility, function and simplicity - The Assignment Two is a research-led approach to essay writing and by combining the essay title as theme with the workshops on developing questions students are expected to undertake their own research into the theme. The lecture then acts as a cross-reference for confirmation or challenge to the perspectives in your own thinking. Getting started is following the week-by-week research-led approach being outlined in the seminar-workshops.
This also avoid the essay task being a simple reiteration of the content of the lecture, and a more authentic undergraduate research and analysis task. This will be key to developing the skills required for second and third year theory modules.
