Critically analyse the strengths and weakness of one leadership style covered in the module in the context of sport management. In what circumstances in sport might the leadership style be recommended? In what circumstances might the leadership style be damaging? Your critical analysis should be underpinned by relevant leadership theory, research and practice. It is recommended you use examples in the sport industry to make your case.
The essay assessment is designed to give you the opportunity to research and explore in greater detail the areas of sports management that were covered within the lecture and seminar programme.

- Leadership and emotional intelligence
- Leadership and emotional contagion and labour
- Shared leadership
- Ethical leadership

1. Critically appraise inter-disciplinary academic scholarship of leadership and its application to practice in the sports management industry.
2. Critically assess the influence of internal and external factors that impact leadership effectiveness in the sports management industry.

Written Essay
Formatting and Submission Guidelines:
The length of the essay must be no more than 2,000 words (excluding references). The essay must be 1.5 line spaced, left justified, times new roman, font size 12, with 2.54 cm margins on all sides. Feed-forward will be given during the taught sessions and the specific assessment sessions during the module.
Assessment Feedback:

Verification Marking Process:
These assessments will be subject to mark verification, whereby a second member of staff scans 10% (min 6, max 20) of the assessments to ascertain that the marks for the module are broadly appropriate and have been fairly arrived at.
