Topic 1 Journal Critique

It should include both Part A and Part B as below. Students should submit a journal critique.

Part A – Basic information of the article critique (not more than 350 words):
1. Name(s) of the author(s)
2. Title of article
3. Title of journal, volume number, date, month and page numbers
4. Statement of the problem or issue discussed
5. Brief summary of the author’s purpose, approach or methods, hypothesis, and major conclusions.

Part B – Comments (not more than 350 words):
It covers your appraisal and critical comments towards the article. You may include your references but must not more than 5. Example of a journal critique can be found in Appendix A.

Topic 2 Mini systematic review
Three submissions in total, including the work plan, written report and oral presentation which are on the same topic.

Aims:
1. To develop students’ abilities to analytically critique the current research and/or clinical evidence in neurological rehabilitation;
2. To facilitate their abilities to appraise and comment on the evidence through analytic thinking, literature search and review in the field;
3. Select review strategies to work on and to prepare a work plan for a selected topic/area accordingly; and
4. To present the information in written and oral format appropriately.

Suggested work flow:
Students should start preparing a topic of mini review.
Throughout the whole course, discussion on the development and progress of your topic through emails, online meeting or face-to-face meeting(s) with the course’s teachers is voluntary but recommended. With the topic selected, students would then submit a work plan (10% of the whole subject). Presentation should
be submitted in recorded video format by. Presentation will be arranged at the end of semester. After the presentation, students should submit their written work.

Work plan (10% of the whole subject)
Each group must submit one work plan. The following headlines would be used:
 Topic
 Treatment area and target client group
 Example of journal articles to be followed
 Research evidence search strategy used (can be in the form of a table)
 List of articles to be reviewed (no more than 30)
 Number and type of case studies used
The work plan is limited to at most 2 pages of text (Single-line spacing, Times New Roman, font 12).

Marking of the work
The following aspects are expected:
1. Contents of work: significance, originality (include the headlines suggested) (40%)
2. Organization and presentation (30%)
3. Clarity (20%)
4. Ability to follow the requirements (10%)

Oral Presentation (30% of the whole subject)
Each group will be given 15 minutes for the oral presentation and each student must have chances to present part of the topic at least 5 mins. The presentation should be in video-recorded format.
Marks are rated on individual basis of students’ performance as below:
Individual marking of the work
The following proportion of ratings are expected:
1. Contents of work (include background, methodology, results and case reports, analysis and discussions, summary and conclusion) (30%)
2. Organization (30%)
3. Clarity of presentation (30%)
4. Time control (10%)

Written Report (40% of the whole subject)
Group report marking
Each group must submit one group report. This report will be rated by the course’s faculty. The following aspects are expected:
1. Contents of work, include
(i)background, methodology, results and case reports (25%),
(ii) analysis and discussions (25%),
(iii) summary and conclusion(25%)) )
2. Organization (10%)
3. Clarity of written work (10%)
4. Ability to follow instructions (Appendix C, 5%)
